BLEEDFEST MISSION AND OBJECTIVE

We are passionate about raising the visibility of indie genre movies by female filmmakers.

BleedFest Values: Empowerment, Partnership, Fun, Self-Expression

BleedFest fetes the women who love writing, producing, directing, and watching badass genre movies: horror, thriller, action, sci-fi, western, exploitation, B-movie, erotica, and more cliche-busters. We also screen a few male filmmakers who have empowering female protagonists; their work screens out of competition and receives our "Partnership Award". Our mission is to spotlight these bold films and their fearless makers, and prove to the world that the derogatory term "chick flick" needs to be retired.

The festival is the first Sunday afternoon each month. We feature: shorts, music videos, web series, and features, works in progress, and student films. We also program Q & As, networking opportunities, forums with noted Hollywood luminaries to explore issues facing women auteurs in the industry.

Our March 6, 2011 Event: FANTASIAN!

Join as as we celebrate beautiful and fantastical films by uber talented Asian women from several countries. Cal Arts alumna Deepika Daggubati will be present for a Q &A after her gorgeous coming of age/fantasy/musical feature WAKING DREAMS, as will Cal Arts alumna Anna Biller for her themed trilogy of feminist musical shorts THREE EXAMPLES OF MYSELF AS QUEEN. We will also screen her FAIRY BALLET, and THE INCUBUS. Special guests to be announced. Carly Lyn will receive her Inanna statue from the January BleedFest screening of the Asian-starring western/sci-fi feature A FOUNDLING, and Nora Jesse will receive the Best Producer certificate award for her satirical short GRANDPA.

"Tell Her She Can"

BleedFest is committed to giving back to the community. Last month's Women in Horror Month event sponsored a blood drive and marrow registry, and was a huge success gathering 25 pints of blood to save lives. This month we are collecting books for Bridge to Asia and cash donations for The Asia Foundation's Women's Empowerment Fund.

Why BleedFest:

Bleedfest provides what filmmakers need to be successful. Our filmmakers are all official winners, and will have a new Winner Laurel to place on their press materials. Each filmmaker will receive an award and have a Q& A and photo moment in front of a red carpet Step and Repeat banner. We've had a half dozen alumni members tell us they have received more press notices and reviews with BleedFest than with top tier film established film festivals and with Hollywood PR firms!

Something you may not be aware of is that female filmmakers can have a difficult time getting press. We are teamed with seventeen Press Partners (and we're adding more weekly) to ensure that every filmmaker will receive at least a half dozen news stories or reviews. Several of these Press Partners are official News Desk Providers for IMDb, meaning the stories may appear on the film/filmmakers' IMDb page and help boost their IMDb rating.

The Impact

We want women's hard work to be seen and talked about, so that there is indisputable proof that talented ladies are creating genre films and can no longer be ignored.

While female filmmakers have made great strides in the areas of documentary, drama, romance, and comedy, they continue to be systematically ignored in the press and film festival circuit for making genre films i.e. horror, thriller, fantasy, sci-fi, action, martial arts, super hero, erotica. We know there are hundreds of marketable Kathryn Bigelows with the potential to make mainstream blockbusters and underground cult hits...and without BleedFest they may continue to be invisible.

What We Need & What You Get

We need $600 to help towards the cost of renting our screening venue for the 1st Sunday in March. My sister Brenda and I have committed to the theatre rental contract through May, but BleedFest's future after that depends on this campaign and any help you can provide to finding a couple sponsors to underwrite the event's modest monthly expenses.

We offer terrific perks as Thank Yous to our Supporters.

Other Ways You Can Help

We know times are tough...if you can't make monetary contribution you can still be a HUGE help by getting the word out about BleedFest and the fact that women are making genre films! With your help we can make some noise about BleedFest and female filmmakers. Indie GoGo has made it easy to get the word out...just use the SHARE TOOLS at the bottom! And THANK YOU!!!!
