Our Story
My name is Lauren and I'm a film student at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. For my first semester, we have been shooting 16mm black and white silent films on Bolex cameras. As students, we're able to rent the cameras for free. Unfortunately, we still have to cover the cost of buying film as well as shipping and processing that film. We've been working in groups of three, so that has helped cut costs down. However, for our final project we'll be working alone and there's an added cost: getting our film converted to digital. The Project: A short film about a young girl who invents an alternate lifestyle for herself.
What We Need & What You Get
Every dollar counts! Think of it as helping me process/convert a few feet of film...You can be assured that your money is going to one of the three things listed below:
Cost of film and processing: $210.00 (From Pro8mm, Black and White Tri-X Reversal, (6) 100ft spools)
Cost of shipping film: $100 (This is the cost for one of my past projects, could be more or less...)
Cost of converting to digital: $220-300 (Teacher's estimate)
If I do not reach my full goal, I will cut out the cost of converting my film to digital and edit it manually. However, this means that any final product that I share with you will be shot via a camcorder while the film is being shown with a projector (poor quality). On the other hand, if there is any leftover money it will be used for entering the film into festivals or will be put towards my next semester's film projects.
Other Ways You Can Help
I would really appreciate any help you can give me in getting the word out. Post to Facebook, Twitter...whatever you use. The sharing tools above make it easy.
Thanks everyone!
