Our Story
FIGMENT is an annual free public art event where all of the art is somehow interactive and the public is invited to bring their own art, play with everything they find at FIGMENT, and enjoy public space in a unique way. In our first year in Boston/Cambridge, we entertained over 5,000 people along the banks of the Charles River with nearly 100 interactive art pieces including dance, sculpture, chalking, live music, DJ music, art cars, art bikes, storytelling, giant bubbles, costumes, and much more!
Founded in 2007 on New York Citys Governors Island with a handful of projects and a few thousand enthusiasts, FIGMENT has grown exponentially into a multi-day, multi-city event that drew over 30,000 participants in NYC and Boston in 2010. With the addition of Jackson, Mississippi in 2011, FIGMENT continues its mission to offer free, inclusive and participatory art to entire communities, removing the barriers of museum and gallery walls and entrance fees and blurring the lines between those who create and those who enjoy art.
This indiegogo campaign will help fund FIGMENT Boston for its 2011 year. This is our second year in Boston and this year we are excited to have a new home right in the heart of the city on the Rose Kennedy Greenway! This year, FIGMENT's unique free public art experience will take place on two days, June 4 and 5, along the Greenway parks from Chinatown to Rowes Wharf.
The Impact
FIGMENT is 100% free and volunteer run and accepts NO advertising or corporate sponsors, we rely entirely on donations and foundation support for our modest budget. This year, we are trying out indiegogo for the first time. Our indiegogo campaign goal of $5000 is approximately half our operating budget for 2011. This money goes for the basics: insurance, security, equipment rentals, permit fees, and signage.
Nobody at FIGMENT makes any money, so every dime of your donation (after indiegogo and paypal fees) goes directly to our expenses! We are also raising money through several great fundraising parties (certain contributions at this site will get you tickets to the first party as a thank-you). Check our website for more details.
Even if we don't reach our full $5000 goal, your contribution will still help bring FIGMENT to Boston. If we meet our goal, please keep donating! We can always use any excess for bigger art or roll it into the budget for 2012.
Donations to FIGMENT Boston are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. FIGMENT Boston is organized under FIGMENT Project, Inc., a New York based 501(c)(3) corporation.
