I am 46 year old, trying to find balance between the demands of a full time job, family and two young kids, and I box.
I box because I cannot imagine my life without boxing. To say that the 14 months I've been with WWB have changed my life would be an understatement. Why box? Because it is an amazing full body workout that had helped me lose weight and get back in shape.
Because it is empowering to know that if the need arises, I can defend myself. It helped me reclaim my confidence, my voice, my sanity.
Because it teaches me to be focused, grounded and in the moment. It is eye opening - the way you fight mirrors the way you deal with challenges in life in general, and by improving your boxing you ultimately better your coping and problem solving skills.
I also box because of Teresa and the women of Women's World of Boxing. I am fully aware that if it wasn't for Teresa Scott and WWB I would have never experienced any of the above. And this is why we need a WWB gym
- women owned, women run boxing gym for women, so no woman will have to deal with stereotypes, dirt, stench, or lack of locker and shower space. After all women's boxing is not a passing trend and most probably the demand for it will only increase after the inclusion of Women's boxing in the 2012 Olympic Games.
