Our Story

This campaign is fiscally sponsored by San Francisco Film Society and all donations are tax deductible.

1939 Vienna - Elly Glass, only 23 years old, rescues her Jewish husband husband from Buchenwald Concentration Camp.  Henry P. Glass went on to build one of the first solar houses in America and became one of worlds foremost industrial designers - leaving us with many unique and important inventions.  What we come to realize is that without Elly's courage and fortitude through the years none of this would ever have happened.  Elly passed away in 2010 at age 95 but not before she had a chance to tell us her story.  She is not only an unsung heroine of the Holocaust but a remarkable woman for her generation and any other.

The Impact

Few people know that Holocaust survivors built the first solar house in America.  It is vitally important that these Holocaust stories keep being told before all the survivors are gone. This film is also a portrait of a couple who were "living green" 60 years before the rest of us.  We have been in post production for nearly two years and without a complete rough cut we cannot apply for the kind of funding that will take us through to completion.

What We Need & What You Get

The entire crew of this project has worked for deferred salaries.  That means everyone involved must hold down day jobs and work on the project in their spare time.  $2000 would enable us to hire the editor for the time it would take to complete the rough cut.  Without this help this phase of the project might go on for years more. No donation is too small - in fact someone recently sent us $1.00 in the mail.   Your gift is not only appreciated - it is tax-deductible and we offer recognition, invitations to events and even some special prizes.
