Our Story
EKA [unity] is a multidisciplinary project whose aim is reinterpretating the language of indian classical music and dance, using technological means to develop a scientific investigation that provides a deeper understanding of the subject. It started with a performer and a musician who decided to express their inner passion by the ancient culture of India putting it together with modern technology and visual arts. Even the music is a fusion between indian classical music and electronic music. Working with artists and professionals from different areas such as photography, video, animation, neuroscience, robotics and programming, the main ideia is putting apparently different languages telling the same story, combining art and science at the service of knowledge.
Although the project is giving its first steps in Portugal and England, we intend to expand it abroad. It comes in the sequence of M.A.D. [Music, Architecture, Design] developped between Lisbon and London. EKA [unity] is promoting multimedia shows and artistic installations, workshops, sculpture exhibitions and current investigation in science and arts.
The Impact
The investigation about the complex codes of mathematics and geometry within the dance and music of ancient India, combined with the great possibilities given by technology, will open new horizons about the way people see the bounds between old and contemporary culture. A whole new experience will be given to artists, scientists and public in general about the connections of body and mind, about movement and kinectics, a multisensorial way of seeing art and science working to the same purpose. It will open the gates to deeper investigation in all these different areas and ways of combining them.
What We Need & What You Get
The funds we are raising will support the beginning of the investigation in several forms:
- practical and theoretical investigation in dance and music, including the support of teachers
- hardware and software
- scenography and props for dance shows
- materials for registration of the process in video and photography
- divulgation of the project in festivals and cultural events
This is just a starting amount to support some of the initial projects. We need this first push so that the project can walk by its own feet in the next year.
Other Ways You Can Help
A great help will be given if you share the information with everyone. We also appreciate contacts of any kind of institution that supports cultural and scientific activities.
Help us spreading culture and technological advance at the service of art!
