Our Story

EC Comics was one of the most important cultural touchstones of the 20th century, and THE most controversial comic book company of the McCarthy era. In titles such as Tales From the Crypt, Weird Science, and the much-beloved Mad magazine, the men and women of EC refused to compromise as they broke boundaries of race, sexuality and morality. Their rewards? They captured the imagination of an entire generation, and were eventually censored and ran out of business by no less an august body than the United States Congress. Even though the censors won the battle, crushing EC in one of Americas most devastating creative witch hunts, the creators won the war. Their legacy would rise from the ashes, spawning two of TVs most popular and long-running series (Tales from the Crypt, Mad TV), and living on in reprints for decades, directly inspiring numerous major motion pictures and influencing a new generation of writers, artists, filmmakers, and actors.

Our film captures first-hand accounts with the artists who lived the legend, in addition to interviews with generations of comic creators and filmmakers who were inspired by their ground-breaking work.

Confirmed interviews from modern talent include: Jimmy Palmiotti (Pinkiller Jane, Powergirl), Mark Waid (52, EIC Boom! Studios), Steve Niles (30 Days of Night), Thomas Jane (The Punisher, Hung, Boogie Nights), Arthur Suydam (Marvel Zombies), Tim Sale (Batman: The Long Halloween), Stan Lee (founding father of the Marvel Universe)  and many more!
