Synopsis

The hype associated with Canadas digital television transition remains fixated on the benefits that digital over-the-air (OTA) television will purportedly provide Canadians. While the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) describes the switch to digital over-the-air television as offering the promise of higher quality sound and picture, interactivity, and the potential for HDTV (Digital Transition Models, 2009), if the digital signals being transmitted cannot be received by a television-viewing household, these technological advances are meaningless. Such a scenario could be the case for many of the approximate 10% of the television-viewing public in Canada who rely on over-the-air signals (Digital Transition Models, 2009).

Dude, Where is My TV? will investigate the impact of turning off the analogue television broadcasting system in Canada and replacing it with digital broadcasting. It will interrogate the effectiveness of the Government of Canadas strategy of relying on market forces to implement a successful digital television transition in the country by the August 31, 2011 analogue shut-off deadline.

What I will use the money for

The funds will be used to help cover travel and accommodation so I can travel to Canadian communities impacted by the transition including Saskatoon, London, and Saint John among others.
