Do You Know Diddley Sqot?

If you know Jack you really should know Diddley!

Before introducing you to Diddley Sqot, I'd like to introduce myself, Mike Quinn. I'm an animator, puppeteer, actor, director and producer and have worked with people like Jim Henson, George Lucas and companies like Pixar and The Walt Disney Company since 1980.  Creating characters and telling their stories is my specialty.

Credits include Fraggle Rock, The Storyteller, Toy Story 2, Jurassic Park 3, Star Wars Attack Of The Clones, The Great Muppet Caper, The Dark Crystal, Return Of The Jedi, Dreamchild, Labyrinth, Little Shop Of Horrors, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, How To Get Ahead In Advertising, Muppet Christmas Carol, Muppet Treasure Island and most recently, the smash hit film The Muppets.

Just over twenty years ago Diddley Sqot, the alien formerly known as "Thing" appeared on TV screens on The Children's Channel in The Huva and Thing Show and later his own chat show, Thing's Thing. He was a lovable cheeky alien character who's views, insights and observations on our world enabled his viewers both young and old to see things in a new and innocent way, often shunning social etiquette for brutal truth in the name of comedy.

He was a great success with the fans (as was evidenced by his fan mail) and also with the broadcaster, raising their viewership to an all time high. The shows were broadcast simultaneously in English for the UK and Dutch for Holland. The Children's Channel was broadcast on the Sky Broadcasting Satellite Network in the UK.

After being out of the limelight for two decades, Diddley is being redesigned and rebuilt for the 21st Century! He will exist as a puppet character using updated materials and techniques. However I believe it is time to go beyond the standard accepted TV puppet technology made popular by Jim Henson's Muppets over the second half of the last century. That's why I've created a technique that uses the best of both puppetry and animation knowledge. It's called QZimation and will breakthrough the current limitations of both.

So this campaign will enable the birth of Diddley Sqot and also the technology to bring him to life. Once Diddley has been established, many other characters will follow. The ultimate aim is to create a viable and well loved franchise for many years to come. This is the ground level of what many have been waiting years for and you can be an important part of bringing it to fruition.

What Diddley Sqot Needs & What He Can Give You In Return

I decided to go with Indiegogo's  new Fixed Funding option as I think it's fairer to contributors. This way everyone knows I'm serious about doing this right. If the funding goal isn't met then all contributions are automatically returned to everyone. I believe it inspires confidence that if someone wishes to help the project, they can be sure it is really making a difference to making this happen and not just disappearing into some black hole.

Using this Fixed Funding option, there is a 30 day limit to any campaign, which is not a lot of time to make this work, but the upside is that it's not a long drawn out process and we can either get down to business or all get on with our lives.

The project needs a minimum of $20,000 which is really the absolute minimum to get this up and -running. Here's where it will go:

-A photo poser figure of Diddley Sqot will be built for photo shoots and publicity.

-A regular hand puppet will also be built for any live action shoots and impromptu interaction with the real world.

-A special model will be built to be used for the new hybrid animation/puppetry technique, QZimation.

-Hardware and software costs are included to handle all the state of the art processing.

-Legal, marketing and publicity is vital to the success of this project and therefore has been allocated within the budget.
