The mining, farming, and economic crisis in Bolivia has forced thousands of Aymara families to move from their homes in the countryside to the city of La Paz. Their children live on the border between the country and the city, watching Hollywood movies and listening to the legends their grandparents tell.
With Digital Aymara, these children learn to tell their own stories through film. They learn to write scripts, create characters, film scenes, compose soundtracks, and edit and publish their work.
The dream of the younger kids is to merge Aymara myth and contemporary storytelling through a weekly telenovela, combining the powerful legends of their people with the compelling melodrama of the genre. Each week, they will post a new chapter on YouTube.
Digital Aymara includes the ongoing telenovela and a documentary the kids will make about their own creative process.
