Our Story

Deaf Faker is bitingly close to the bone satire, a hilarious spoof documentary series. It's already causing a stir on YouTube and Oscar winner Marlee Matlin is a fan, declaring it "Very funny" on Twitter. I am developing the series on YouTube with a view to attracting TV companies to the concept.

In the series I play a hearing actor/TV presenter, Charlotte, who is on a 'Faking It' style mission to fake being deaf. In real life I'm a deaf actor playing a hearing actor trying to fake being deaf. 

I wrote the script too. I am a regular contributor to BBC Radio 3 & 4, and I've performed my stage plays all over the UK. Some of you might have seen me playing Gabby in Channel 4's Cast Offs. Right now I'm on the Channel 4 screenwriting course. It's time to get Deaf Faker on Big Telly.

At it's heart Deaf Faker is about ignorant or naive attitudes to deafness and Deaf culture. But rather than being a po-faced moan, it's fresh, edgy, and scarily real!

I've made the first three on no budget using a cheap camera to test the idea. It works. Now I've got two cameramen/editors on board, but each short episode takes a few days to make, so I need to pay them.

The Impact

This is your chance to help fund the next three pilot episodes. As ever I aim to break new ground and take risks.

The best way to communicate sticky subjects is through comedy. Eyes are opened and everybody wins. Lets rock that boat!

When episodes 4, 5 and 6 are online I will pitch a bigger show to TV companies. Ultimately the plan is to create roles for other deaf and hearing actors in Deaf Faker.
