Day Laborers: The Invisible Workforce is the heartbreaking story of the unknown men and women who build our homes, landscape our yards, and care for our children. Why are they here, and why are they hated for it? This is the story of Juan who arrives at an Anaheim bus stop at 3:30 every morning to travel two hours south to Laguna Beach to secure a days work in hopes of feeding his wife and newborn son. This is the story of Vilma who works 16 hours a day for $4 an hour caring for the child of two parents who can afford to pay her five times as much. Racism, abuse, wage theft, and the threat of deportation are the daily woes of these men and women. Separated from their families and afraid for their lives they take on tasks we no longer deem ourselves suitable for.
