My name is Daniel Rutter, I’m a 20 year old Australian… and I want to be a director. I’ve been trying my hand at home movies for the last three years, and I think its about time I moved on. My first films were small-time kiddy-bullet-fests that I shot with my Camera phone… and I decided pretty early on that I needed to find proper actors if I wanted to live my dream.

I love action films… its my passion. Ever since I decided that storytelling through film was my dream, I’ve filmed action movies. One thing about Australia that nobody seems to notice, is that action films are quiet rare. Yes… nobody makes action movies much in Australia anymore… and guess what? I intend to change that!

My biggest influences would have to be American and Hong-Kong cinema. Robert Rodriguez, Quentin Tarantino, John Woo, Steven Spielberg, Paul Greengrass… the list goes on and on. I love films… I love them so much, that every waking moment (when I’m not writing, filming or editing) is spent watching films. I watch Hollywood films, Aussie films, Youtube films… and you can believe that Youtube (and Vimeo) holds the key to some of Hollywood’s future directors!

I couldn’t live my dream without the help from my family. My little sister Skye, who’s been the foot to my backside since I picked up a camera, has been either in front of the camera, or beside me shooting for the last three years. Without her and my brother Patrick… none of my films would have seen the light of day. Armed with my Nokia N95 camera phone, and a script… we’d film some of the most amateur, fun, action packed stuff we’d ever seen. These short films made it to Youtube, but mostly were well received by family and friends. Once we’d realized that our family liked them, we’d shoot more and more… eager to show them what we can do!
Unfortunately, Skye has to focus more on School now, and Patrick has lost interest in making films and now wants to do other things… But I’m still going strong. When Skye isn’t busy with school, we take my new Canon HV30 (High Definition goodness!) and find things to film…

I plan on overturning Australia’s film industry with my bullet fests, much like John Woo did with Hong Kong cinema, and Robert Rodriguez with his low budget tricks. I will succeed, or I will die trying.
