We are bringing our show to New York and we need your help to put it up!
DUELING HARPS is an elegant night of music and antics created by performers Ann Magnuson , Adam Dugas, harpists Alexander Rannie and Mia Theodoratus, and the puppeteer Robin Walsh. Our show runs October 14, 15 and 16, 2010 at the Abrons Arts Center located in New York Citys Lower East Side.
This is a fun and unique show of music and performance and these kinds of things only happen with independent backing. Here's how we pitch it: A darkly elegant evening of gorgeous melodies with a theatrical flourish. Ann Magnuson and Adam Dugas face off on vocals as Alexander Rannie and Mia Theodoratus strum their harps in this twisted match of musical one-upmanship. The quartet thrusts and parries with an arsenal of tunes ranging from the ridiculous to the sublime: psychedelic calls to prayer, Henry Purcells Baroque art songs, Kraftwerk, Buffy St. Marie, Lee Hazlewood and Pink Floyd, as well as original songs by Magnuson and Dugas.
Dugas and Magnuson meet upon the stage to resolve a grudge; a duel ensues to settle their dispute that is fought using only music. Each singer brings a second to accompany them on the harp, the only other weapon allowed in the duel. Dugas and Theodoratus represent the East Coast, Magnuson and Rannie the West, as a battle rages - with much trickery and tomfoolery. Robin Walsh adds a dash of the surreal with her puppetry, and a special Halloween encore rounds out the night. There will be blood!
Why do we need your help? We are producing this all ourselves and need to fly and house three fantastic artists from Los Angeles in pricy New York City. We are trying to keep the door price low ($20) so that as many people as possible can attend and therefore we could use a bump in our financing to help cover production costs like props and puppet construction, and to pay all the artists involved a respectable fee: lighting designer, sound man, costumers, etc
If you can't give today, please help us spread the word!
