We know times are tough, but in order to bring you Season 2 of Downsized, we need your help! Amongst many other rewards, you will find yourself investing in a sophisticated show that makes the economic crisis enjoyable, memorializing what it was like to live through it, with humor and sensitivity. After all, there is nothing better than laughing at things that could be painful if you didnt find the silly in them first.
Downsized will be the first of many original online productions for Digital Chick TV, a much-loved website which was created to raise awareness for quality content by and for women in digital media. In 2011, Digital Chick TV endeavors to bring you a series of smart, sophisticated, character-driven online video that highlights contemporary issues facing both women and men.
THE SHOW
Chosen as one of the best shows on the web for YouTube and nominated as Best Web Comedy in Clicker.com's Best of 2010 Awards, Downsized is a quirky satire that has been compared to "Up in the Air meets Hung" about people who are adjusting to lifestyle changes during the economic crisis.
In September 2010, Downsized was invited to screen at the prestigious Cologne Conference in Germany, along with HBO's Treme and Temple Grandin, and films such as Todd Solodnz' Life During Wartime and Debra Granik's Winter's Bone.
In December 2010, Downsized was nominated as Best Web Comedy (Serial) in Clicker's Best of Awards.
Over the past year, Downsized has also received critical accolades from Tubefilter, NewTeeVee and Daytime Confidential and received mentions in Variety and Nikki Finke.
Downsized is also one of the few original web series granted a YouTube partnership.
THE CREATOR
Up and coming female writer/director Daryn Strauss was profiled in the May/June '10 issue of Script Magazine and also made an appearance on GRITtv with Laura Flanders. One of the first twenty-two digital signatories to the Writers Guild of America, East, Daryn has also been a vocal advocate for increasing the visibility of women in digital media, as the founder of Digital Chick TV (www.digitalchicktv.com).
THE CAST
The much-praised ensemble cast of Downsized includes talented theater, film and TV veteran actors including Chris Henry Coffey, who is one of the stars of the latest Clive Owen film Trust. And who's to say which web faves won't pop up as guest stars?! Maybe we'll just tell you as a treat for your donation!
