DESPERTAR

Rosa, a domestic worker in Mexico City, is at a crossroads in her relationship, her job and her life.

Our Story

Despertar (Awaken) is a short film, already shot entirely in Mexico City featuring Miriam Balderas from HBO Latinos hit series Capadocia and Maria Novaros Las Buenas Hierbas.

Despertar (Awaken) is about Rosa, a domestic worker struggling with decisions about her abusive relationship and what to do as shes forced to face the realities of a difficult economy.

Directed by award-winning filmmaker Cristina Kotz Cornejo - www.wildwimminfilms.com; produced by Priscila Amescua Mndez of PAM BOX Pictures, shot by cinematographer Santiago Snchez (Somos Lo Que Hay) and music by Andy Kotz (www.andykotz.com), Despertar will be submitted to festivals around the world.

The Impact

Despertar, which means "Awaken" in Spanish was inspired by my observations and conversations with several domestic workers while I was living in Mexico City. The story is based on real facts and is dedicated to all the women who struggle to better their lives through honest work and who are often invisible in the world they work in.
