What is a Decentralized Dance Party (DDP)?
The DDP is a portable, battery-powered Party System. It consists of hundreds of Party People, carrying boomboxes, and a DJ who wears a backpack, containing a powerful FM transmitter.  All the boomboxes are tuned into the DJs master FM broadcast, resulting in a mobile, synchronized sound system. This Portable Dance Party roams the night, generating complete awesomeness, street by street and block by block, onto buses and subways, into public fountains and beyond! Inevitably interfacing with the public, together we create an infectious epidemic of fun! A Roaming Party Adventure that lasts all night long!

We are Tom and Gary, two crazed fun-lovers from Vancouver who invented the DDP AKA The Party Revolution and have sworn to spread it to Every Single Country On The Face Of The Earth.  Seriously.

STAGE TWO OF THE PARTY REVOLUTION:
Lead a Patriotically-Charged Party Safari from Vancouver to Newfoundland and back, spreading Canadian Pride and sharing the joy+madness that is the DDP with our Canadian Brothers and Sisters from Coast to Coast!

BUT!
To be honest, when we posted the above teaser and tour schedule and Facebook invites for this thing two weeks ago, we knew it was a ridiculously long shot.  We had no resources, no vehicle and no money. 
We were just hoping something might materialize.

We figured that realistically wed have to save up all Winter and do the Party Safari in the Spring (and adjust the tour dates and Facebook invites accordingly).  
BUT THEN!
We received an immediate+overwhelming response from across the country, with thousands of excited+enthusiastic people signing up, tons of media inquiries and offers from people everywhere to help us out!

And then we discovered IndieGoGo.com, which would hopefully be the key to securing the financing we needed!

So, we said: Lets Do It Right Now.

We have 200 boomboxes and a few crazy friends who are willing to come with us on this Adventure.  In true DDP style, its going to be an insane last-minute scramble that may result in physical+financial ruin and who knows what else!

Weve had to push things back by a couple of weeks and scale the tour back to just five stops Coast-To-Coast (the cities whove shown us the most love so far): Calgary, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Toronto and Fredericton.  
But thats ok.  Its still going to be AWESOME!  

And if we survive, in Spring 2011 we will do the Full Party Safari, and Probably hit Yellowknife and Yukon too.

WHY YOU SHOULD CARE

This project is a 100% participatory and 100% positive communal undertaking that will bring thousands of strangers together to sing and dance and enjoy life to the fullest in the fine streets of our fine country!
And, not many people realize it, but:

The DDP is actually revolutionary public performance art- everyone holding a boombox becomes a performer and rocks out with each other and random people from the public and our collective energy projects everyone to unparalleled heights of happiness for hours on end.  It appeals to raw+beautiful, tribal human music+dance instincts ingrained in our DNA that have been subverted since childhood in our sterile western cultures.  Its like the atmosphere and excitement of a Childrens Birthday Party, but for adults.  It truly has to be experienced to be believed.  And we've received nothing but positive feedback, for example: Man, I was totally sober and I was having the time of my life!  And I dont even dance, but I danced all night and my feet are so bruised and ruined!  That was So Crazy!

Furthermore, the DDP is all about showcasing+championing the presently-unfolding revolution in decentralized, crowd-sourced funding+mobilization for the greater good.
Together, we can accomplish what was impossible only a few short years ago.
In a matter of months, a cool idea and a pile of old boomboxes can be mobilized to create joy and excitement and laughter for thousands of people nationwide!

And this mindset and strategy can be applied to just about any communal undertaking, like a flashmob to raise money and build a house for someone in need.  So yeah, were stoked on that too.

WHAT WE NEED & WHAT YOU GET

Right now we are honestly pretty broke.  Weve invested over $10,000 getting the DDP this far and recouped only about $850 in donations.  Thats how much we love and believe in this thing.
The estimated costs for this venture:

MISCELLANEOUS COSTS:
(batteries, party props, boomboxes bought on the road, etc.) $2,500

DAILY COSTS:
$750/day for BIG motorhome rental+gas
$500/day for our 7-person crew (rent back home, modest wage, cellphone roaming fees)
$250/day for food for our 7-person crew
=$1500/day
x
15 days driving from Vancouver to Fredericton and back
= $22,500+2,500 misc costs
=$25,000

/5 Canadian Cities (we have a donations page for each City)
= $5000 /each stop

But weve raised $5,000 already ourselves.

So, we realistically need to raise about $4000 for the Fredericton stop, and $4000 in every other city also.  If we cant raise enough $$ we might have to turn back early, and that would be Not Fun.  
So if you could help us out wed really appreciate it!

And!
Once we exceed the $4000 mark, we will split the profits 50/50 with Frederictons local charity of choice (at the end of the night, we will call out the names of five local charities and the loudest cheer wins).
