We are raising money to fund continued production of this very important documentary film.

About Conversations With the Living
Conversations With the Living
is a feature length documentary film that has been in production in the United States and Haiti since 2009 and is focused on addressing the HIV/AIDS crisis in the developing world.
Our project functions under the non-profit fiscal sponsorship of the International Documentary Association (IDA), a 501(c)3 nonprofit membership organization dedicated to supporting the efforts of nonfiction film and video makers throughout the world.
The Story
Conversations with the Living
focuses on HIV-positive orphans and the daily
lives of these children within the greater context of Haitis troubled history and historically volatile infrastructure. In the process, the film highlights the network dedicated to bringing HIV-positive orphans
the medication, food, housing, education, and emotional support  that keeps them alive. We will trace the path of that medication from the child through the entire network that made it possible, showing the
dedicated individuals that work tirelessly every day, grinding through routine and unforeseen challenges and providing real solutions to Haiti's battle against HIV. It takes effort, organization, continued funding, and unerring dedication on the part of countless people to give these children a chance for survival and a future where they can be engaged and accepted in their communities.
The Goal
The ultimate goal of Conversations with the Living is to draw attention to HIV/AIDS in the developing world and continue to raise awareness of the need to support AIDS organizations around the world. We are determined to show that HIV progress does not happen by accident and that the network of caregivers and activists that work together to provide for these children is intricate and delicate.

This network provides real hope for the future of these children and represents what is positive and possible with compassion and cooperation efforts.
The positive strides made against the disease in countries like Haiti and the people who make it possible must not only be recognized, but also supported. Raising and maintaining awareness about the efforts of dedicated HIV workers must happen. This is the point.

We have the team, the skills and the access. Now we need to raise the funds for the last leg of production.
What You Will Fund
We need $31,500. The funding will allow us to provide travel, housing, meals and vaccinations for our production crew, as well as the insurance and equipment required for production. Here is the breakdown -

Why You Should Care? The real impact of awareness, compassion and cooperation efforts .
For me, an area of moral clarity is: you're in front of someone who's suffering and you have the tools at your disposal to alleviate that suffering or even eradicate it, and you act.

-Dr. Paul Farmer, Founding Director of Partners in Health

Even before the earthquake there were three doctors for every ten-thousand Haitians. Currently one in twenty Haitians is infected with HIV/AIDS and there are over 150,000 AIDS orphans.

HIV-positive children provided the proper resources in Haiti are happy, healthy and hopeful. Lives are being saved and people need to know what is working in Haiti and what needs to be done to maintain this work and broaden its reach.

No one should ever die of a treatable disease. Access to lifes basic necessities - food, water, shelter, education and health care is a human right. Lack of access is a humanitarian crisis of the most basic and harmful kind.

For people living in developed countries around the world, HIV has become a manageable disease, however the majority of the worlds people living in the developing world are not afforded that luxury. Their children are the next generation of survivors, advocates and activists, and they are proof positive of what is possible given the resources and support.
They are the example, however most HIV-positive children still face the daunting day-to-day challenges of surviving HIV infection.

Now more than ever, this is a story that needs to be told. With governments, companies, and charitable foundations tightening their belts during the economic downturn, the lack of funding necessary to drive public health programs that address HIV has decreased dramatically, a trend, that if continued, will lead to dire consequences.

Conversations with the Living is dedicated to exposing the links between history, poverty, and HIV
in Haiti, and keeping the attention of the international community focused on HIV prevention, treatment, care and support.
Who, when, where, why ---- What is next?
The Conversations With the Living team returns to Port-au-Prince and Jacmel at the beginning of 2012, where we will have the opportunity to spend time with orphanages that provide HIV-positive children the access they need to stay healthy, attend school and look to the future. We are going to show you how it is done on the ground, where the resources go, and why these methods work.
