Our Story

I have been sculpting for 19 years, and have been selling my work in galleries around the US for the last 15 years.  Just last year I finally quit my full time teaching job (high school art) and jumped into sculpting full time.

I JUMPED!!  So, for the last year I have been travelling around the US selling my work at Art festivals, galleries, and teaching sculpture workshops.  

Through people talking with me about my work, some very passionately, I am convinced that I have to do "Conversation with Myself" in a massive scale.  This one is going to be 12 feet tall. The cost of casting a piece like this, however, is quite high, although casting it in aluminum helps a great deal!  I have a little money saved up, but not the $25,000 I need just to get it into metal, so here's where you come in...

The Impact

Visual art is, in a way, collaborative.  The artist creates the work, but the viewer brings his or her own experiences and perspectives in appreciating it.  In "Conversation with Myself" some people see a parent and child, others remember how it feels to be taller or smaller than other people. Still others see in this piece one figure correcting the other

In my interpretation of the piece the tall figure represents the spirit or higher self. 

Standing with hands behind the back, there is no pointing finger of judgment; just understanding, love and encouragement. It speaks of the times when we are afraid or doubt ourselves. It reminds us go to the part of us that calms us; the inner voice that knows better and calls us to remember who we are:  who we aspire to be.

The small figure represents that part of us that is fearful, doubtful or confused. Each of us has times when we are very human, very flawed, and very lost

The power in the sculpture is the reminder. Even in confusion and the doubt, we have access to the wisdom that our spirits hold.

First created in ceramic and now cast in a monumental size,  We are able to see ourselves in the reflection of the giant face  as we stand beneath the iconic sculpture .It is there that we begin to glimpse the greatness of our potential.  Not only representing us as individuals, the sculpture  is a powerful metaphor for the community as a whole.

It serves to remind us and generations to come of the greatness within each of us and the responsibility we have to become all of who we are here to be.
