Jesses Story:
On the nineteenth of July, 2009 Staff Sergeant Jesse Cottle and his team of explosive ordnance disposal technicians were on their way to investigate an enemy IED (improvised explosive device) when the Staff Sergeant stepped on an anti-personal mine. The blast cost him his left leg from just above the knee and his right leg just below. He had a collapsed lung and perforated ear drums. Despite this he began putting on his own tourniquet before his team leader ran to his side and applied one to Cottles left leg, and then finished putting the tourniquet on his right. He remained conscious the entire time, cheering his team on as they rushed him to a medical evacuation helicopter, on which he finally lost consciousness. He awoke the next day in the hospital, where doctors would have to amputate his right knee as well.
