The world record for continuous circular breathing is currently held by saxophonist Geovanny Escalante, holding a single note for 91 minutes, 45 seconds.

That's impressive, but it's not making music.

Circular breathing on the saxophone can be done for musical purposes, but often it is done just to show off that they can do it. On the didgeridoo, it's an integral part of regular playing. I know that I can go at least two hours, since I have done that while practicing, and am planning on going even longer, 3 hours or longer.

My plan is to play solo for two hours, then be joined by members of Classical Revolution PDX. And I'll be making music the whole time. I will approach this as a real performance, so there may be times when I'm playing slowly or softly, but I'll do my share of fast playing as well.

I'm going to have the event webcast, and I'll also make a video recording.

It's not every day that you have an opportunity to support the breaking of a world record, and this is a record that will be broken in a unique way.

This is going to  happen on Saturday, January 21st, starting at 1:00 pm. In the evening, after the world record is set, will be a concert of my world chamber music featuring some of Portland's top musicians.

This project is purposely set to go a week past the date of the record attempt.
