A small miracle

On October 25th 2011 the beautiful town of Monterosso al Mare (Cinque Terre, Italy) was hit by a flash flood. At least nine people have been killed, many others are missing, homes were destroyed and the town is currently isolated from the rest of the world. They have no electricity, no food and no gas. The damages caused by this natural disaster are endless. It will take years to rebuild everything.

Monterosso occupies a very special place in my heart. Most of my family is from there. I grew up playing soccer on the beautiful beach in Fegina or having a fresh granita while talking a stroll through the town with my friends. It's a little paradise populated with a lot of good hearted people. Being there for a few hours can recharge your soul for a whole year. Now things are different, though.

The beach I used to play soccer on doesn't exist any longer. The streets, shops and bars I went to are buried in feet and feet of mud. Monterosso and it's people are on their knees, praying for a miracle.

We can provide that, at least in a small version of it. PLEASE HELP ME DO IT!!

The Impact

I will personally make sure that the money will be handed to the town's mayor or to the town hall. It will be used to help the population of the town. It might be sufficient to buy some food, restore a few phone lines or finance (in part) the construction of a new sewer system. The old one has been destroyed by the flood.

The town will need more than millions of dollars and a few years to get back to it's everyday life. We can help out, but we need to act now!

Please post this on your facebook page, on your twitter, send a few emails or text people you know. Do not hesitate to send me a message if you should have any questions. I will be happy to answer all of them

Here is one more reason to help:

(from http://www.fattidicronaca.it/ )

Time also to take stock. Vernazza and Monterosso in the Cinque Terre , are on their knees. The mayor of Monterosso Angelo Maria Betta has revealed that in his village the damage amounted to 30 million. All is to rebuild roads, squares, beaches, sewage. "Monterosso is drowning in the mud but the channels were cleaned - said the mayor - have sold the dry stone walls and a huge mass of mud came down to the sea on Tuesday strength was five and he could not receive. "

The Government has allocated 56 million for all affected areas, a figure considered to be insufficient since Monterosso alone had thirty million worth of damages!

The Flood is now in Genova!! Please check out the new pics in the gallery! Help us!

EVEN THE SMALLEST CONTRIBUTION WILL HELP. ALL TOGETHER, WE CAN PROVIDE THEM SOME RELIEF!

(Just FYI: 1 US dollar = 0.7515 euros)
