Our Story

Hello there,

 My name is Niccole and I am currently studying for my B.A. in Television, Film, and Media. My school is putting together a three course class cycle for the next school year for us to make a short film, enter it into the Cannes Film Festival in France in May 2012, and also participate in the festival. My short film's story line has a major aspect of food and cooking in it. I would like to bring my friend and consultant/publicity, Kelly, who is a cook, to Cannes also. My school, CSULA, is taking care of all travel arrangements, but we need your help to come up with the money ($6,000) by the end of September. Please help us in anyway you can; we greatly appreciate it!


The Impact


 As a film student, to go to the Cannes Film Festival is an amazing opportunity. Cannes is a professional festival, so, one cannot just buy a ticket and go; you must be accredited as a film professional. CSULA developed this three course structure to help us, students, shoot a short film, get accredited to attend the festival, teach us how to market ourselves and our films, and take us there to give us the incredible opportunity to network with companies and filmmakers from across the world. Each course is a learning experience in its own.

 Personally, I have only visited three states and have never been outside the U.S. I would love to have the traveling experience, and I can't think of a better reason than the Cannes Film Festival to visit another country because it helps my education, personal growth, and professional experience. The Cannes Film Festival would also be my last memories of my senior year as I am projected to graduate in June 2012. As for Kelly, she will help spread the word about our film and be able to network with individuals about her culinary experience-I've always told her one day she will be on a cooking show or cooking competition show. 

 However, I know there is a possibility we may not be able to go. This is why I am preparing now, and fundraising in advance. I created this campaign only a few days since I heard about this opportunity and I am trying my best to make it possible. If I cannot raise enough money, it would be disheartening for me to have arranged my whole year around this event to not make it. I would be signed up for the classes to make the short film, and we would still make my short film, but I would not be attending the festival as the others in the courses would be. In the event we cannot raise enough money for at least one of us to go, I will use the money toward making our short film.


What We Need & What You Get

 My school's estimated cost for attending is $3,500, but they are hoping to lower it to $3000. However, my consultant on this project, Kelly, will (hopefully!) go with me to help publicize and get the word out about our film; so, multiplying all costs by 2 would be $6000. This will include (x2):

$1,200 for three weeks of housing in the south of France
$1,150 for airfare based on current prices
$150 for accreditation
$1,000 for food, buses, shuttles, etc.

Besides this site, I am going to try and set up other fundraisers as well.

If I do not get enough money for at least one of us to go, or if we exceed in raising $6000, we will use the money toward making the short film.
