Music Against Myeloma was created in memory of Mark Rubin, who passed away from Multiple Myeloma at age 43 on Nov. 27th, 1993. With a goal to raise awareness and funds, Music Against Myeloma joins together with the International Myeloma Foundation to host this event.

Myeloma is an “oma,” or tumor, involving “myelo,” or blood-producing cells in the bone marrow. The cells affected are plasma cells (a type of white blood cell), which are antibody-(immunoglobulin-) producing cells. A cancerous plasma cell is called a myeloma cell. Myeloma is called “multiple” since there are frequently multiple areas in the bones where tumors have developed. More at www.myeloma.org
