Corner Pocket - ACT I
(Dark stage. Sound of a solid pool break, balls dropping into pockets. This resolves into thunder.)
(A spotlight slowly up on MANAYUNK ELLISON OHARA, an athletic, angular woman in her early thirties. Theres a hardness to her, but also a fear shes not sure how to handle this spotlight, what it means, where its coming from, where she is. She wears a wedding dress.)
MANAYUNK
Hello? Anyone?
Hello?
(She looks down at her wedding dress, like what the hell.)
MANAYUNK (squinting up at the spotlight.)
Hey! Where am I?
SPIRIT ANIMAL (voice, booming and slightly distorted, from overhead)
You dont recognize it?
MANAYUNK
How can I recognize anything, Ive got a light shining in my facewho are you?
SPIRIT ANIMAL (voice)
Youve had quite a shock.
MANAYUNK
What happened to me?
SPIRIT ANIMAL (voice)
You died.

Our Story
Extant Arts is a small, hard-working band of theatre artists and professionals who have made it their mission to bring to life classic plays and help to develop new plays with classical themes. We need your help - our friends, families, strangers, and audience - to help us make this play! (And your donations are tax-deductible!)
Since its founding in 2006, Extant Arts Company has presented
high-quality productions from the classical canon coupled with exciting
and profound new work in venues throughout the New York metropolitan
area. Committed to continued engagement with enduring stories, Extant's
dedicated artists and staff have explored the works of such luminaries
as Euripides, Shakespeare, Chekhov, and Ibsen, as well as contemporary
voices like Rebecca Gilman, and Ellen McLaughlin, all while working with
schools to foster a passion for theatre in the next generation.
The Impact
It is one of Extant's highest priorities to nurture and support developing artists, which we do through our in-school education programs, dark night reading series, and full productions, like this one.
We at Extant Arts are thrilled to be presenting Andy James Hoover's New York premiere Corner Pocket. We have had the pleasure of collaborating with Andy in the past, and we could not be more excited to bring his phenomenal new play to New York.
In supporting Extant's first fully-staged World Premiere you support us in bringing new work to life. We believe developing new theatre is vital to the lifeblood of the artistic community, and we hope you will help us continue in this important endeavor.
