Our Story
Blues City Biscuits is a food cart in Portland, Oregon, serving Memphis food with Portland style. From a tiny 1954 travel trailer, we've been serving up fresh-baked buttermilk biscuits (made from scratch right there in the trailer and baked fresh to order, so you always get them soft and hot) and other classic favorites - like our legendarily rich sausage gravy, double-smoked chunky bacon, thick-cut glazed ham, hand-milled hominy grits, spiced fried apples, and smoky (vegetarian!) collard greens. All our ingredients are local and organic whenever possible, and we never use any GMO's or artificial ingredients.
Most of what we serve is great big biscuit sandwiches, like these:
Jerry Lee - Ham steak, fried egg, Tillamook cheddar & sausage gravy
Isaac - Fried egg, Tillamook cheddar, smoky collard greens & gravy
Otis - Fried egg, Tillamook cheddar, spiced fried apples, pecans & honey butter
Elvis - Peanut butter, Nutella, fresh organic banana & chunky bacon
It's been a big hit so far, and our customers love us. We've gotten love from the Willamette Week and other critics, as well as Yelpers and other fans. We've been doing so well, in fact, that our customers want more than our little trailer can handle.
We've got a terrific opportunity to upgrade and it would be a shame to miss it! The new one is a self-contained RV, so we'd be able to drive out to cater events, parties, and farmers' markets. It's also a heckuva lot bigger and with the increased space and equipment, we could offer so much more. Fried chicken to go with the biscuits, our own special house-cured bacon (it's WAY better than storebought), and more of our incredible herb jelly (the lavender jelly is a personal favorite). We could even sell trays of biscuits and herb jelly by the jar for you to take home and enjoy whenever you want!
The Impact
Obviously it would be nice to have more space, bigger equipment, and increased mobility. But we wouldn't go to lengths like this if it weren't a bigger issue than that. Demand for our biscuits is already going to outstrip our little tabletop oven's ability to keep up, and when summer comes we hope to be much busier. Increased offerings would also help us be much busier!
