Wayside Creations presents Blackgold, a science-fiction animated web comic!

Who We Are

Wayside Creations is a group of extremely talented young filmmakers based out of Los Angeles, California whose only goal is to entertain and have fun while doing it. Though most of Wayside hails from different backgrounds, they have come together as friends, roommates, and co-workers to create blockbuster films and outstanding digital media. What is Blackgold?

The idea that eventually grew into Blackgold started as nothing more than a single sentence on a piece of notebook paper. It has taken me over a year to develop and nurture that one sentence into an ambitious undertaking that has succeeded in consuming my life. It was initially slated to be a science fiction novel of around one thousand pages, but I soon realized that this story could not be confined to the pages of a book. It would have to be unique, with worlds and creatures the written word cannot do justice. So, I enlisted the help of some of my closest friends and family and came up with the idea of an animated web comic.

Blackgold is presented as Seasons of twelve five to ten minute long episodes, each fully voice-acted and sound designed with limited and stylized animation. The comic itself will be featured on its own website (www.blackgoldcomic.com) and on YouTube. As of now, only Season One is ready, pending additional funding and/or adoption.

The Plot

Blackgold takes place in the far distant future on an alien world called Marratt, where human beings co-exist with a race of reptilian humanoids called "rygar." The humans have carved out a slice of existence on the continent Jenowa, while the rygar remain in the same place they have been in for thousands of years: the island nation of Rygara. In this world, the humans are much like their earthbound ancestors, while the rygar are a strict, militaristic culture with a polytheistic system of beliefs and a theocratic system of government. Color plays an important part of their culture: gold is considered all that is good, while black is considered the hue of death.

Sixty-two years ago, a black rygar was born in the capital city of Rygara, a megalopolis called T'Ali. Believing the child to be a demon, he was exiled to Jenowa, forever banished before he was a week old. Now, the black rygar has grown up into a strapping young man named Ky'Tal Tsune. For fifteen of those years, he has been an assassin, driven by a powerful subconscious force he calls "The Drive" and a desire to know more about his missing past. Opposing him is the corrupt and malevolent ruler of Rygara, Zetar, the man who put him where he is and who will stop at nothing to ensure Ky'Tal meets his end before his own dark secret can be revealed.

It is a story full of action, intrigue, back-stabbing, suspense, and colorful characters.

What We Need & What You Get

Such a project is not an easy undertaking. This is where the funding comes in. I am going to not only need webspace to distribute the comic, but also money to pay my very dedicated and talented crew with. They have put their own sweat and blood into this to develop it, and they deserve to be rewarded for their time and effort. But most of all, the money will help me develop the story beyond what's written into something perhaps far greater. Friends we may be, but we can't afford to keep doing this for free. The $1,500 I'm asking for during this campaign will pay Mr. Finfrock for his time, as well as my entire cast for the time and effort they will be putting into this project in order to bring it to life. Even if we don't make our goal, we're still going to move forward with our project. Every little bit helps, in that regard.

If you offer $5, you will receive a unique sticker of Blackgold's stylized logo, along with our heartfelt thanks.

If you offer $15, you'll receive the digital line art of one of Blackgold's characters, which will be signed by the artist and the voice actor portraying the character, as well as a Blackgold sticker. Your art will be printed on high-quality card stock and will be ready for framing.

If you offer $30, you'll receive everything listed above along with a frame for your drawing. The selected voice actor will also record a special thank-you message specifically for you. You will also be granted an appearance in the comic as a background character!

If you offer $50, you will receive everything already mentioned, except now your drawing will be a full-color digital print that will be signed by the creator, the artist, and the voice actor portraying the character.

If you offer $100, you will receive a heartfelt thank you video from the creators of the comic, recorded specifically for you, as well as a framed digital print of the two main characters, plus the line art of a character of your choice. This is all on top of what you've already seen listed above!

If you offer $200, you will receive everything already mentioned, along with a two-of-a-kind poster of the entire Blackgold cast of characters, signed by the entire team. You will also be rewarded with a walk-on role in the comic! We will discuss the specifics with you via e-mail when the time comes. This particular perk only has two slots, so get them before they're gone!

All of our perks will be sent at the end of the campaign.
