About this project
The second annual Black Rock Film Fest will be presented by the Boston Underground Film Festival and the Engine Theater. Our open air theater will showcase the best short films from around the world to an international audience of art and film lovers who descend on Burning Man each year for fun, art, and experience in the Nevada desert.
Black Rock Film Fest 2011 will kick off with a Red Carpet Opening Night Gala before the first program on Tuesday night and conclude with a Wrap Party after the last films on Friday night. Before every screening we will host a cocktail hour at our Casting Couch Bar.
Black Rock City has a population of 50,000 for one week in August during Burning Man. The festival will screen films Tuesday through Friday nights at the festival. If you plan to attend, you need your own ticket and camping/survival gear for the event. Visit the official Burning Man website for more info.
Screening your short film at the Black Rock Film Fest is an excellent way to be a part of the best party/arts event on the planet.
The Black Rock Film Fest (formerly known as BRC International Film Festival) began as a collaboration between SF IndieFest and BUFF, the organizations responsible for the annual San Francisco Independent Film Festival, SF Documentary Film Fest, Another Hole in the Head, and the Boston Underground Film Festival. The organizers have collectively produced over 40 film festivals.
About the ENGINE THEATER
??
In the early 21st century the most widely practiced art form is MOTION PICTURE (FILM/VIDEO). A variety of social and technical attributes are responsible for the rising phenomena, but the most apparent cause can certainly be traced to the advancement and availability of pro-sumer resource and technology. An era of power to the people (so to speak) in this medium threatens the corporate media empire as never before.
With more and more motion picture content searching for viewership - the next phase in this threat is imminent: Wider opportunity for motion picture venues.
In cities all around Europe it is already becoming standard for clubs and bars to have a quality PROJECTION SYSTEM. Just as the Independent music scene took on a D.I.Y. attitude that led to 8 out of 10 bars facilitating a stage and P.A. system the world over - The same must be done for underground film.
The Engine is a pioneering angle on this forthcoming movement.
The portable projection system, featuring a 1000 pound light and steel sculpture that kinetically supports a 17 foot screen, debuted at The Architecture and Design Museum of Los Angeles in 2007.
The $$$ raised will go to bringing the ENGINE THEATER to Black Rock and to screen four nights of cinematic art projected on to a stunning sculpture art screen in the warm dusky glow of the desert landscape. It will also help to cover the construction of our casting couch bar and festival sign (which is also a piece of art in it's own right). Thanks to the good folks at WHORE CHURCH for the amazing pitch video!!
