Synopsis: Susan Retik and Patti Quigley are two ordinary mothers living the American Dream until their husbands are both tragically killed on September 11. Rather than turning inwards, grief compels these women to travel to Afghanistan and help empower Afghan widows, whose lives have been ravaged by decades of war, poverty and oppression.
As Susan and Patti make the courageous journey from their comfortable neighborhoods to the most desperate Afghan villages, they discover a powerful bond with each other, an unlikely kinship with widows halfway around the world, and a profound way to move beyond tragedy.

We are currently raising funds through small individual contributions to help self-distribute Beyond Belief to theaters nationwide. One of our major expenses will be hiring a publicist to help promote these screenings.

Not only will you be helping spread this important message, but 10% of all box office returns for the film will be donated to the Beyond the 11th Foundation to help widows in Afghanistan become self-sufficient.

What makes Beyond Belief different?
Beyond Belief premiered at the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival to overwhelming audience responses and has since had an incredible run on the film festival circuit, including several top prizes and a special screening at the Hamptons International Film Festival. The film is more than another 9/11 documentary – in fact, it isn’t really about 9/11 at all. It’s about two women whose lives were suddenly and irrevocably changed, and the ways in which they bonded with widows halfway around the world to move beyond tragedy. Khaled Hosseini, author of The Kite Runner, calls Beyond Belief “a moving and beautiful film… about the universality of loss, grief and the ways in which we search for healing.” New York Magazine calls it “genuinely inspirational.” It is a film that will make you laugh, cry, and most importantly believe that a better world is possible.
