11-11-11 kicked off the start to Brown Eyed Girls Productions campaign to bring attention to a growing problem in our community through the film "Between the Miles."  Sponsored by Live Arts Group, School on Wheels, and The National Runaway Switchboard "Between the Miles" deals with homeless and runaway teens in Los Angeles and how the system is failing too many of our children.

Fact 1:  Between 1.6 and 2.8 million youth run away in a year.

Fact 2: The County of Los Angeles is now the homeless capital of the United States.

Fact 3:  Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) reported some disturbing statistics about the number of youth that run away from their foster homes.  The worst part is they admit they have permanently lost track of the majority of teen runaways.

We hope this film will:

1.   Share their story.  Open the audiences eyes and see what life is like for so many of our foster and homeless youth.  To be a child and receive no love, yet to have energy and passion to still fight your way through life that spirit of theirs will forever haunt and inspire.

2.  Create awareness and reach a vast audience through film festivals, distribution, and/or cable television.

3. Inspire others to get involved in homeless/foster kids lives.

Log Line:  After taking three homeless students off the streets of LA and into her care, a young music teacher must overcome her own reckless tendencies.

Director's Statement:

I titled the project "Between the Miles" because I often look back on my time spent with my students and truly believe 'happiness comes from between.'  Walking mile after mile is another element of the story. Flora, the main character, and her boys are constantly walking throughout the city, looking for the next place to call their 'temporary home.' They catch the bus, the metro, and make their way to the beach. In many ways, the lessons Flora learns from these teens are the same exact lessons I learned. It is NEVER too late to do the right thing. There is always hope and hope is always more important than experience.

We have 1 dream, 1 vision, 1 hope.
It starts with 1 person and 1 dollar.

"Between the Miles" can only come alive with help from people like you.

All funds raised, no matter if we reach our goal or not, will go to funding this project.  "Between the Miles" WILL be shot in 2012.
