So the plan had been originally to present a gallery show called Between Heaven & Hell in March. Which didn’t happen, which is totally okay. So, with encouragement from Slava, I’ve brought the new, improved, stripped down project here to IndieGoGo.
Between Heaven & Hell is an art installation covering my work from 2009 featuring my three favorite models. The purpose of the show is to explore thoughts and images of redemption, damnation, murder, suicide, and beautiful naked women. It also is to give people an opportunity to see the entire series in one place, live and in person, rather than on tiny computer screens.
One of the images for this show, Between Heaven & Hell II was featured at the Damned II show in Minneapolis in October, which was wildly well received.
This series had its genesis in a series of emails that went back and forth between my Muse and I, the Mad Model, Heidi Kobara. Having had an exceptionally bad couple of years, we decided we needed to purge our spirits the only way that we knew how — making art.
So what will your pledge buy you, you ask? It buys the venue. It buys promotion and invitations to all the arts writers/journos here in LA (I have a list! even in the stripped down version). It pays for printing of silver gelatin metallic prints and pro gallery frames of the BH&H series. As much as I would love to print the 30 other images from this particular shoot, this after all, the stripped down version and the series is a total of 22 images already. It buys supplies and wine for the show. And that’s that. Bare bones, but the work deserves to be seen.
I hope that this show will get people to think a little deeper about what faith and beauty are, by fooling them into looking at the pretty naked girls first. But the message is more than skin deep. We are all between Heaven & Hell on any given day. It’s our choices that determine where we end up and how we feel about our companion gods.
And one way or another, I’m going to put this show on. I hope you’ll help me send it off in style.
