What is 'Bellydance Unbound'?

'Bellydance Unbound' is a performance video featuring the best in dark fusion bellydance. For the first time, the dancers will be removing themselves from the stage and out of the studio to perform individual and original pieces in a variety of locations of the dancer?s choosing. The video will feature ten dancers in nine separate performances.

Why are they doing it?

To allow the dancers to showcase their style of bellydance in a manner that will allow their performances to be more nuanced and emotive than before. The proximity of the camera will allow them to use more minute gestures and expressions that would normally be lost when used during a stage performance. They can dance in an environment that adds to the story or emotion of their piece without worry that a set piece will block them from the view of the audience. They can choreograph a piece without worrying about the edges of a stage or the walls of a studio stopping them from the range or direction of movement they want. The dancers will also have the opportunity to even use the features of their chosen location in their choreography.

Who are the performers involved in the project?

Currently, the dancers involved in the project are: Ariellah, The Lady Fred, Jodi Waseca, Isa Shisha, Lisa Hyde, Natalie Nayun, Raven Ebner, Vulgaire, Doreet Gordon and Dusty Paik. Music provided for the dancers will be as diverse in style as the dancers themselves. They range from pianist/composer Chris Ferrier to goth/punk band The Nuns to cellist/singer Unwoman. Others currently included are Carla Kihlstedt with Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Sui Generis Umbra and DJ Knowa Knowone.

What we need to raise.

The $5000 we are seeking to raise is merely a fraction of what we need in order to complete the whole production. We feel what we are asking for is the minimum we need to get all we need to start.

It is estimated that it will cost $100,000 to complete the entire production. If we manage to raise half of the total cost of the production, we will send everyone that contributes to this IndieGoGo campaign a copy of the regular edition of the DVD/Blu-ray. If we meet or exceed the complete cost of the production, we will send everyone that contributes to the IndieGoGo campaign a limited edition copy of the DVD/Blu-ray and a mini-poster.

Special package additions

If you are getting a DVD/Blu-ray or a poster, for an additional $15 per item, they can be signed by the cast.

If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area and you are getting an incentive package valued at $50 or more, for an additional $25 you can have your perk package delivered to your door by one of the members of the cast.
