The Movie

The project is a narrative live-action featurette, a supernatural drama freely adapted from Stephen Kings short story with the same name. In my project, the lead character, Ayana, is a 25 year-old blind black woman living and studying between the East Bay and SF, who has become very fond of listening audio books read through a particular voice. Dave is a white man in his late twenties, who has recently interrupted his studies to attend to his dying father. While Dave is trying to find marijuana to ease his fathers cancer pains, he ends up running into Ayana, and she recognizes her favorite reader.

"Ayana" is loosely based on the 2007 homonymous short story by author Stephen King. It will be crafted as a live-action narrative, shot on digital video, on location, in the S. Francisco East Bay Area. It is a non-exclusive, non-commercial film adaptation thought out through Stephen King's Dollar Baby Program.

The Impact

    Ayana directly addresses issues of universal education and accessibility for the arts, namely accessibility of literature and visual media for the visually impaired youth. Crafted from scratch to incorporate audio-description in its original sound design, it is intended to create awareness amongst the sighted audiences of the need to invest more time, strategies and technologies in providing more universally accessible art work for disabled audiences, craving for accessible informative and aesthetic experiences, very important avenues for independence for the adults of tomorrow.

     Ayana is also a story about miracles, about good will and availability to help your fellow man, be it a close friend or a stranger, with a strong visual and poetic emphasis as a filmmaker I am committed to tell stories who will make us advance as storytellers, performers, spectators and individuals;
