cantaor (flamenco singer), gitano (Gypsy), tradition (tradición), personal truth (duende y corazón), artistic purity (puresa artistica)

About Me

Born in 1961 Jerez de la Frontera (Spain), one of the greatest centers of flamenco, my farm-worker family was steeped in the flamenco tradition and in el buen cante gitano. As a very small child I began trying to imitate the cante that I heard. By the age of 10, under the tutelage of my older sisters boyfriend, I was memorizing flamenco letras. At 11 I made my first television appearance as a singer and at 13, I left school and have been a professional cantaor ever since, touring throughout Europe, Japan and the United States. I have also co-produced and co-directed a number of prize-winning flamenco stage shows. My background in film and video includes camerawork for a number of shows (under the name Antonio Moreno Carrasco(, and my work on this show.
