My Story

My name is Antoinette Douglas Hall, I live in San Francisco, and I was born in the UK to West Indian parents.

I have worked in the photography industry as a Producer for over 10 years, on commercial advertising & editorial shoots.  I am really excited to be a part of this opportunity, a project where my photographic images can provide support, raise hope and contribute to an amazing cause.

I am going to show support and raise awareness for a condition called Obstetric Fistula.  As a photographer I will be capturing images to record the emotional journey of the women and bring attention to the issue.

I will go to Ethiopia on the 21st November for 12 days with a team called Salaam Garage where each team member will create an individual project to support the Ethiopian women with obstetric fistula and raise the profile of the Hamlin Hospital who deeply care for these women.

Obstetric FISTULA is a preventable condition that can occur to women during childbirth leaving the women in a state of permanent incontinence of urine and or feces. This condition can often leave them ostracized from their families and communities with no support.  The Hamlin Hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia is making a difference.

The Project

I plan to exhibit, then create and publish a book.  The proceeds from these 2 events will go directly to the Hospital.

The hospital treats 2000 women every year but thousands more go untreated.  The majority of these women that are left untreated live in rural areas and either they cannot make the journey, cannot afford it or have not heard about the hospital.

With financial support they can build more outreach posts in rural locations and train more staff.  As a result many more women will have treatment or support posts closer to them and aid will be increasingly more accessible.  With these efforts we hope to raise the number of women treated by The Hamlin Hospital.

My project will explore the huge gift a successful surgery can bring.  Support, community and family are needs that welcome the women at the Hamlin Hospital and I wish to capture that joy and hope.  This project will happen, but to what extent will depend on your support.

Please donate what you can and spread the word to all your family and friends.

Thanks!!
