The Amani Team...We are a diverse and incredibly motivated team inspired to share Amani with the world!!  My name is Kahshanna Evans, I am the writer as well as producing and acting in Amani and joining me as an Associate Producer is Zainab Johnson.  Amani is an original short film I wrote inspired by an article I posted on CNN's iReport entitled Child Soldiers In America (2009) after being pulled over for running a yellow light.  Amani is a short film inspired by true events and represents our ability to ask questions and awareness about using our voice to restore balance to the authority figures we look to for protection.   We look forward to sharing updates with you about Amani!!

The Impact...Publishing the article Child Soldiers In America created a sense of empowerment for me which lead me to writing a short film based on true life events.  I can't explain the freedom it created!  Film and storytelling creates that freedom for people to feel, to remember to tell their truth and to use our voices.

Too many women and children have kept secrets about crime and assault.  They even find ways to go to school and to work and cleverly explain bruises away.  Feeling protective and compassionate we often sympathize by imagining them as powerless.  As a filmmaker I wanted to show the warrior element of Woman.  In using her voice, Amani retrieves and important piece of her power.  I have often wondered what we have to gain by keeping the best element of woman underground in film.  Everyone stands to gain empowerment and inspiration by celebrating Amani's hard earned victory, because it is their own.

In this film, and in life, tears actually mean courage, clarity and truth rather than defeat, confusion and secrets.  We are strong enough as a people to cry together and laugh together, that is the power of film and we can't wait to share that with all of the supporters of Amani!!!

What We Need & What You Get...Amani is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit art services organization.  We aim to raise $10,000.00 for our project.  Funds will be used for location, props such as a school to shoot in and a yellow school bus.
