Hintergrund

Eigentlich bin ich als Sängerin auf jiddische Musik spezialisert, aber in den letzten zwei Jahren wuchs in mir der Wunsch, mich auch mit meinen bayrischen Wurzeln musikalisch zu befassen. Bei der Recherche stellte sich heraus, dass es Lieder gibt, die sowohl in der jiddischen Volksmusik als auch in der  bayrischen Volksmusik vorkommen. Das hat mich sehr überrascht und auch beglückt! Darüber hinaus habe ich mit Hilfe der Jiddistin Janina Wurbs bairische Lieder ins Jiddische übersetzt, aber natürlich konnte ich auch nicht umhin, jiddische Lieder ins Bayrische zu übersetzen. Zu meinem Glück hat der  lettische Multiinstrumentalist Ilya Shneyveys, auch er ein hervorragender Musiker für  jiddische Musik, sein Herz für die bairische Musik entdeckt und so haben wir beschlossen, dieses Abenteuer gemeinsam zu wagen: Wir werden das Material Ende März 2012 mit einer Reihe interessanter Gäste in München aufnehmen.

Our Story

Currently, I'm a singer specializing in Yiddish music, from folky tunes to experiments. But in the last two years I have felt the desire to connect closer to my own Bavarian musical roots and have conducted research on the topic.  Surprisingly, I found that there are songs with common roots in both the Yiddish and the Bavarian traditions!

In addition, with the help of Berlin-based Yiddishist Janina Wurbs, I translate Yiddish songs into Bavarian, and vice versa.

I'm very glad that Ilya Shneyveys from Latvia, who is a fantastic Yiddish musician, has become engrossed in Bavarian music. So we have decided that we would be a great team for this musical adventure. We will record the material with a number of highly acclaimed guest musicians by the end of March, 2012.

The Impact

The project will bring together numerous important and highly accomplished colleagues from both folk music traditions. It is inspired by last year's and this year's topic at Yiddish Summer Weimar: "Ashekanz - The Matrix of German and Yiddish Cultures". I've been involved with yiddish culture for 25 years, struggling with many questions, starting from "Are Germans allowed to play Klezmer" (this was what I had to deal with in the nineties) to "Why am I playing yiddish music?" and "What can yiddish culture give to the German society today". I felt comfortable in the yiddish world, but something was missing, too. I missed expressing myself in my own folk music tradition.

But the time spent in Weimar last summer has finally allowed me to bring the two cultures together in my own work.

In the Alpine regions there are a number of musicians who have already opened up our musical heritage to new influences: Herbert Pixner, Haindling, Hubert von Goisern, just to name a few. The latest newcomers in Bavaria are Django 3000, who have opened up Bavarian music to Gypsy folk music traditions.

However, my approach is a different one: Rather than creating a pure fusion of two completely different musical styles, we will record material that exists in both the yiddish and the bavarian traditions. In this way we will show that there is still a thread that connects these two cultures. It's a thin thread, but it's there! By recording new material we will work on strengthening this connection, thereby enriching both cultures, and once again ilustrating the power of folk music to celebrate our shared humanity.

As far as I know, there has never been a comparable project in Germany. I'm sure that it will prove to be a most fascinating and very emotional endeavor. Help us to bring these internationally-renowned Yiddish and Bavarian musicians together in the studio for this pioneering effort!

The money I'm raising will go to the musicians as payment, and to cover their travel costs, accommodation and food.

In addition, there will be studio fees and production costs for the booklet and CDs themselves.

О проекте

Раньше я занималась в основном идишской музыкой – как традиционной, так и экспериментальной, но в последние два года у меня появилось желание познакомиться поближе со своими баварскими корнями и особенно с их музыкальной стороной. Во время поисков выяснилась, что некоторые песни присутствуют как в идишской, так и баварской традиции. Это меня удивило и обрадовало.

Кроме того, мы с профессиональным идишистом Яниной Вурбс перевели на идиш некоторые баварские песни и, конечно, я переводила идишские песни на свой баварский диалект.

К моему счастью Илья Шнейвейс – мултиинструменталист и великолепный

исполнитель идишской музыки – заинтересовался баварской музыкой и мы

решили вместе удариться в эту музыкальную авантюру.

В конце марта 2012 года мы будем записывать эти песни в Мюнхене с лучшими

в мире музыкантами - представителями обоих жанров.

Почему

Этот проект объединяет музыкантов, важных как для идишской, так и для баварской музыки. Все музыканты, как показывают другие похожие проекты, заинтересованы в поиске новых путей развития традиционной музыки, в том числе и объединяя ее с музыкой из соседних культур и создавая новые произведения в традиционном стиле.

Этот проект является первым в своем роде. Запись обещает быть сверхувлекательной и очень эмоциональной (в хорошем смысле), когда всемирно известные специалисты по идишской и альпийской музыке соберутся вместе в одной студии.

Что нам нужно и что вы за это получите

Деньги, которые мы просим, пойдут, во-первых, на оплату гонораров, дорожных расходов, проживания и питания музыкантов. Кроме того, надо платить за аренду студии, запись, художественное оформление и выпуск диска.

Сама я не получаю гонорар из этих денег.
