A group of first generation Americans of Soviet Jewish background travel to Ukraine to explore the Jewish history of the region.
They tour former shtetls, walk through the old Jewish neighborhoods in Kiev, Odessa and Lvov, learn of great Jewish writers and philosophers and visit sites of mass executions.
Throughout this journey the trip participants share their feelings and families stories on the issues of assimilation, living in fear of discrimination and Jewish identity.
