Lola, a lonely child, is a carer to her alcoholic single Mum. After being bullied by a gang of children Lola is followed home by Hinges, a scruffy stray dog.

The skinny mongrel soon becomes Lola’s best friend. Lola secretly makes a home for him in the garden shed and feeds him what she can find from a modest kitchen: dried pasta and prunes. Not at all suitable for a hungry stray.

Lola is horrified when Hinges disappears everyday to visit a pretty lady who feeds him scraps of bacon.

Feeling betrayed and full of jealous rage, Lola concocts a plan to maintain Hinges loyalty. With murder in her eyes she steals a large carving knife…

Lola’s absurd but innocent actions leads to Hinges having ‘fresh meat’ every day in an unexpected outcome. Hinges will surely never leave her side now, and love her forever?

This is magical realism and inspired by a painting by young artist Candice Tripp.
