Our Story
The HMS Gaspee is a local legend in Warwick, RI, a community celebration of patriotism and the early days of American Independence commemorating when a group of colonial merchants attacked and burned a British schooner intent on imposing taxation without representation. But one man, known only as Aaron Briggs, has a story which fundamentally re-shapes this story. Featuring interviews with local historians, this film delves deep into history and returns with a darker tale of how America was born.
The Impact
This is the first real effort to portray the impact of the slave trade in Providence and show links between the Brown Family and the university named for them.
What We Need & What You Get
Funding will be used to pay post-production costs, such as sound design and publicity. Donations of $5 will earn a movie credit in the film's final cut.
