Our Story
ALL THAT YOU CAN'T LEAVE BEHIND is the story of divorce told from a slightly different perspective, the mans side of the story. What happens when it is the WOMAN who leaves? Russ Anderson is a highly successful attorney and thinks that he has the perfeect life, a beautiful wife and three beautiful daughters. But everything is not as it seems. Russ is more married to his career than he is his wife, more concerned about the well being of his clients than his own children. He is an absentee husband and father. But when his wife leaves him,leaving her three daughters behind, Russ must figure out how to be, not just a parent, but a dad. He must learn that balancing life AND career are not as easy as he might think. And when things seemingly fall apart, Russ comes to learn that family is indeed ALL THAT YOU CAN'T LEAVE BEHIND.
Thus the story of ALL THAT YOU CAN'T LEAVE BEHND begins. More than just the film itself, this is the story and the journey of everyone involved in this film, from Writer/Producer/Director William Butland and his long time producing partner Greg Culver. But it is the story of how all these people came together in a tight knit community to make a film that THEY wanted to see. A film that they ALL hope will launch their careers. William Butland and Greg Culver have been trying to make a film since 1993, and here they are, almost 20 years into their non-stop quest to get their voices heard, to get their message out, with camera's rolling on their first full length feature film. They are joined by South Florida notables Julie Schelhorn (Executive Producer), C. Todd Vittum (Producer, 1st Assistant Director, Publicist), Ashley Harris (Producer) and Johnston Blakley (Cinematographer & Producer) and Paul Halluch (Cinematographer, Producer) on their quest. Dreams are funny things; we all have them, but rarely get the chance to fully realize them. The commencement of principal photography on March 10, 2011 marked the beginning of the realization of that dream for the cast and crew of ALL THAT YOU CAN'T LEAVE BEHIND. For writer/director William A. Butland and his talented associates, it was the culmination of a decades long effort to tell stories through the medium of film. Now in production, ATYCLB, a story of family, love, loss and the reconnection with the people and things most important to us, gives the storytellers the chance of a lifetime. To fulfill that lifelong dream. But no dream can be fully realized without the assistance of the people you love, and that holds true for this dream as well. We're making a warm and family friendly FAMILY DRAMA that explores issues that most if not ALL people can identify with. A story of family broken apart, of children growing and of parents learning to grow with them and for them. There is a distinct and defined message to our film, a message about families and of love and of heartbreak.
We hope to raise the $20,000 as a start to help us with such film making necessities as Liability Insurance, location rental costs, costuming and permits, as well as the cost of editing. If our campaign is not entirely successful we are still determined to get through with the film that we have already started shooting, however it may make it more difficult to do some of the things that we need to do to make this the best film it can be. We have a truly GREAT and DYNAMIC team of film makers involved with this project and they ALL, every last actor, camera person, pa and extra-deserve to have their talents shown to a broader audience. Our ultimate goal with this film is THE SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL!!! And we ARE going to be there, standing on stage proudly talking about our film!!!
