Our Story
With AFRIKA21, our goal is
to create a platform to introduce Africa's emerging creative thinkers in the
fields of music and arts & culture. AFRIKA21 will
give audiences a first hand look at 21st century contemporary
African culture, and open up a new dialogue about Africa. The
Afrika21 Mixtape Project serves as an opportunity to celebrate Africa?s next wave of musicians, highlight the renaissance taking place on the continent
and raise the profile of people and organizations working toward farming a new
vision of Africa in the 21st century.
The Music - The AFRIKA21 Mixtape vol. 3

The Message Behind The Music
The Afrika21 mixtape project
is a call to action, inviting the world to not only experience the renaissance
happening on the continent but to support the creative thinkers who are the
architects of this movement.
The Afrika21 Mixtape Project will fulfill this intent by:
- Featuring artists who are redefining African music, culture and the continent in general
- Profiling African based organizations using technology or the arts to improve the lives of or create opportunities for people in their communities, countries or the continent as a whole.
- Encouraging the global community to support the emerging creative thinkers who are reshaping Africa.
For this installment of the AFRIKA21 Mixtape we chose to support 3 awesome
organizations on the ground on the continent using art and technology to
improve the lives of those in their communities, while nurturing local arts and
culture.
Who Your Contributions Support
We are looking to raise $10,000 to support local programs and initiatives put forth by The Kuyu Project (Kenya), The Sierra Leonian Cultural Conservation Project (Sierra Leone) and AFRICULTURBAN (Senegal).
The Kuyu Project is a digital literacy initiative aimed at teaching
African High School students how to fully utilize social media and other
digital tools to effect social change in their communities as well as
to achieve their personal goals and objectives.
The Sierra Leone Cultural Conservation Project responds to the challenges faced by
youth and the cultural sector in Sierra Leone by providing in-depth
training to young documentary artists and mediamakers, and by engaging
these young artists in the creation of public arts and media programs
for the local community, all free of charge for audiences and
participants.
Africulturban is a community center that provides music and community programming for local youth. It serves as a radio station, youth center and performance space. The center also produces an annual hip hop music festival attended by thousands that promotes local Senegalese music and serves as a much needed platform for artists.
