Our Story
Hello! My name is Kendal Brenneman
(www.kendalbrenneman.com), and I am an American actress in Paris. This year I will be submitting a short film to the 168 Hour Film Project (www.168project.com), a Christian film festival based in Burbank, California. For the past several years, I've lived in Los Angeles and made my living doing background work and stand-in work in television and film. But in 2011 I decided to leave L.A. and go to France, where I have determined to stop standing in the background, stop auditioning and waiting around for an agent, and start creating something of my own! I came on an artists visa to create a web series, which is still in the writing process. But since I swore to everyone in 2011 that I would be making a film for the 168 Hour Film Festival from Paris in 2012, it looks like this will be my first foray into the world of producing, instead!
The way the festival works is that your
team is assigned a Bible verse based on the year's theme. This year
the theme is “Promises”. Once you have your verse you have 10
days for pre-production - writing the script, getting your locations,
casting your actors, and then one week to film it and edit it and
turn it in. A month later, all the qualifying films are screened at
the festival and there is an awards ceremony for the best films.
At first, it was hard to find people I
knew here who were willing to work on a Christian film. Though the film
community is strong in Paris, the religious film community is not.
But finally, I started to get interest, and now the crew is being
assembled! The latest addition is Sébastien Matuska as writer and
director (http://vimeo.com/user4039289).
I'm very excited to be working with him, and looking forward to even
more talented people coming aboard in the coming days and weeks.
Now for the reason you're reading all
of this. I am asking for your help in funding it, so that we can
really create something great for this festival (and perhaps others)!
I need to keep the cast and crew happy with some good food, since
they are graciously giving up their time and talents to work with me,
and I also need to be prepared for any rental fees or expenses in the
production and post-production process. Due to a work conflict, we got permission to follow the US schedule, and will be assigned our Bible verse on February 5, commence filming on February 16, and send it in by February 23. Since the filming date is so
near, I am extending this IndieGoGo fundraising past the completion
of the film, and using my own savings to cover costs until getting
reimbursed. If we exceed our goal or don't use all the money we
raise, it will be put towards the next film project (because there
WILL be another)!
The Impact
I want to use this film as a stepping
stone for myself and for the people I will be working with to share
our passions and talents with the world. I want to help the 168
Project reach out into France and beyond, and to encourage Christian
filmmakers worldwide to get involved. I want to create a piece of work to be proud of, that inspires
those who watch it.
If this campaign is successful, it will
mean that not only can I get this project done, but I can continue to
plan for other projects in the coming year, such as my soon-to-be
webseries, Great Expatations (www.GreatExpat.com).
What We Need & What You Get
A quality film is not cheap, and what
we want to make is a quality film. Many of the people working on it,
including myself, will be working for no compensation, but some
expenses cannot be avoided. Equipment rental, costumes, props, food,
music, etc. We cannot count on everything being donated or free, and
due to the constraints of the contest we may run into additional,
last minute unexpected expenses. We are setting the fundraising goal
at $1500, which is roughly 1000€ after accounting for the exchange
rate, IndieGoGo's fee and Paypal's fee. We would be thrilled to raise
even more than that and make the film even better, but 1000€ will
allow us to cover a lot of the basics. If we don't raise the goal
amount, we will definitely be grateful for what we do raise, since
anything not donated comes out of our own pockets.
What you get for helping us out!
For a $1 (they won't let me make it $1.30!) donation you get our deepest gratitude for your support!
For a $10 donation you get our deepest gratitude, and a private link to the film.
For a $20 donation you will get our deepest gratitude, and a private link to the film, and a thank
you postcard from Paris!
For a $50 donation you will get our deepest gratitude, and a private link to the film, a postcard from Paris, a special thanks in the credits of the film
For a $100 donation you will get our deepest gratitude, and a private link to the film, a postcard from Paris, a
special thanks in the credits, and a copy of
the DVD
For a $200 donation you will get our deepest gratitude, and a private link to the film, a postcard from Paris, a copy of the DVD and an Executive Producer credit in the film and on IMDB
For a $500 donation you will get our deepest gratitude, and a private link to the film, a postcard from Paris, a copy of the DVD, an Executive Producer credit in the film and on IMDB and a ticket to the Saturday screenings at the festival
(transportation to LA not included)
