A lonely convenience store clerk is shot through the heart during a robbery by a beautiful bandit. After his miraculous physical recovery, he finds himself still mentally damaged and is constantly haunted by unfathomable dreams about her; he eventually sets out on a surreal quest with a couple of unlikely companions to find and kill her in hopes of bringing peace to his mind, but he may soon find that he is not yet ready to handle this mysterious femme-fatale.
A Piece of My Heart touches on several genres, but is largely a mystery-fueled, action-oriented psychological drama, with some modern day western (though not set in the west), gangster and film noir elements. Its closest well-known kin would be Memento, although it has some similarities to Robert Rodriguezs El Mariachi trilogy (including the low budget style). The film would feature five major action sequences (one of which is in the short), including bloody shootouts and a car chase scene, so it can definitely be sold on the action alone, although its much more than that. Its quite different from the typical indie film and a much easier marketing and distribution sell. The short was recently made an official selection of the Motion Film Festival in Tampa.
