Peace Education
WE MAKE PEACE is a voluntary based non-profit organization working to spread peace education internationally through our materials, workshops and campaigns.
We believe Peace Education should be taught in every school in every country of the world.
After having effectively run peace education campaigns and workshops in Denmark with more than a hundred schools involved, including collaborations with organizations such as UNICEF, Amnesty International and human rights bodies, running pilot projects in UK schools as well as exciting new education programs in Uganda, East Africa, WE MAKE PEACE is now ready to take this experience to the masses. And what better place to start than New York City?
Our Campaign
We are thrilled to have found this platform to raise money for our campaign A PLEAD FOR PEACE:
We wish to raise $5,000 to carry out an extensive tour of the schools in New York City with the peace education workshop, A PLEAD FOR PEACE.
A Plead For Peace
A PLEAD FOR PEACE is an interactive workshop. We teach students (aged 8-13 years) how to make peace within, with each other, in the classroom and in society.
The workshop is based on learning key issues of:
Human rights
Human needs
Conflict resolution
Anti-bullying principles
And the core values that spell out P L E A D:
P= Positivity L= Love E= Empathy A= Acceptance and D= Democracy.
The program is taught through open debate and student interaction.
"Peace education is needed not just in societies marked by war, but in all societies that are serious about living in peaceful societies. Peace education is currently not on the curriculum, but should be prioritized right from the top. WE MAKE PEACE makes peace education fun, creative and interactive." Founder Marie Mamonia.

Timeline
We wish to start the tour of the schools this year beginning in Brooklyn, in the fall of 2011, starting from October.
The workshop will be held by director and speaker Marie Mamonia. The workshop is interactive and can engage larger groups (150-200 students) as well as class groups (20-30 students).
Marie will also be responsible for the project to be both viable financially and achieve its goals actively.
If you are a teacher and would like to see this workshop in your school, please donate any amount you can, and help us on our way by spreading the word.
If you just think this sounds amazing, as do we:-) then you can help too by sharing this link and donating anything you can spare. It all starts with you.
The Impact
We work with social change.
WE MAKE PEACE promotes learning that enables student participation in a positive and safe environment.
We believe in giving students essential personal life skills for personal growth, as well as a set of creative problem-shooting tools, which builds confidence and establish a set of common values for the classroom, and the school necessary for peaceful coexistence.
This will benefit not only the children involved, but the whole environment at the school, and the local community these children come into contact with (i.e. friends, family, teachers, coaches, social clubs, sports clubs, religious groups and other social groups).
Without this campaign children are likely to never come across peace education during their primary school years. Children especially from disadvantaged or crime-ridden areas are likely not to develop peaceful conflict resolution skills, and a socially caring, loving behavior towards others in the community. This means a world with more aggression, more bullying, more violence, fear and ultimately more crime.
When it comes to peace-making it starts with us... Me and you!
It starts right a root level, learning peace skills at an early age will resonate positively through society at every level.
What We Need & What You Get
We need cash to make it happen. Your donation will go towards building the props for the workshop (essential part of the workshop are 13 tailored alphabet-suits made out of fabric and foam, stickers and posters for participating schools), transport (to and from schools), promotional articles (print and digital including website updates).
Even if we don't reach the full campaign amount, we guarantee that your donation will go towards getting this workshop into as many schools as possible.
What you get is the change to fund something really worthwhile for children in the New York City area. We value your contribution endlessly and will make sure to provide all supporters with briefs and updates on how this project is doing along the way, so you can see just where your money went and how it's all going. Perks include: a peace poster, a signed copy of the children's book A Recipe for Peace (once published) and invitations to any upcoming WE MAKE PEACE events.
