Our Story

Hello,
 
I am currently working on my first indie video game title: Wisps: The Redeeming. I have started work  last year (February, 2011) and now I have reached the alpha stage of the project, as shown in the latest update videos and screenshots. I am doing the game design and game programming myself, and also most of the game graphics artwork. Music, sound effects and part of the artwork however must be outsourced. 

 

The game is built upon the Unity 3D game engine, it features modern graphics, original mechanics and a bit of nostalgic feel in regard to old school platform style games we all loved. It is under active development and updated often. I expect to reach the beta testing stage sometime during fall 2012

The Impact

The game is  targeted at casual players market (both desktop and mobile), specifically at people who enjoyed simple and fun arcade games like Snake or Pac-Man. By combining the mechanics found in these old games (unintentionally, during game design) with modern physics simulation and graphics and some original mechanics of my own, Wisps: The Redeeming has what it takes to be a successful game. 

 

It features randomly generated levels and infinite gameplay, the goal of the game being to obtain the highest score possible by carefully planing your next move, using power-ups, combos and other interesting tricks.

 

The game is all about maximizing score while minimizing the risk involved. It rewards the player for completing as much as it can of each level within a time limit, but it also punishes the player's laziness or poor performance with "negative" power-up effects. Controlling the character and planning all actions within a level, managing the risk/rewards balance carefully are all things the player must do in order to get the highest score possible. There is little chance involved in this game besides the randomness of the levels, everything is based on players' skills and reflexes.

 

There is also a social component to Wisps: The Redeeming. The players will be able to share his/her scores with friends over various social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.

 

As a conclusion, the game combines old mechanics with new mechanics in an original way, resulting in a fun and demanding experience which appeals both to casual and more hardcore players.

 

What We Need & What You Get

Up until now all I did on this project was with little spending and a lot of work. I did all the programming and graphics art myself, working with freeware tools and keeping all costs to a minimum. The problem is the music and sound effects need to be outsourced, as long as some of the artwork I cannot do myself, and here is where I need your help. By contributing to this indie game, not only you have the chance to get your hands on it faster than anyone else (one day before the official release), but you also get some nice perks and, the most important thing of all, you show that you care and that will keep me motivated to push on with the project.

 

I'll break all I need down into the following list, in order of importance:

 

1. Music and sound effects - 700$ 

Unfortunately programming and graphics are not enough to make a great game, I also need music and sound effects and I have no talent for those. I already found the right person for this outsourcing job, but I need the indicated funds to do it. Without your help I am limited to free sounds effects and music that might not match the theme of the game at all, failing to add to its mood.

 

2. 3D assets and textures - 250$

In order to achieve more variety in the generated game levels I want to create several sets of trees and vegetation in order to achieve a different atmosphere/mood for each level. Without your help, only a single set of trees/vegetation will be used for all game.

 

2. Unity Pro License - 1500$

The game is currently developed using the free version of Unity game engine, but in order to show the right visual effects for the game I really need the professional version. The game uses a lots of lighting and shadows, and all those are possible only with the Pro version (Deferred Shading and Dynamic Shadows features). With your contribution, the game could look really astounding, way more better than it currently looks now.
