Our Story

WE GOT INTO SUNDANCE! We need to complete this film by January! Give us a helping hand so we can make it to the dance on time!

From Oscar-nominated filmmaker Mark Kitchell comes A Fierce Green Fire, the most comprehensive exploration of the environmental movement ever put on film. Ten years in the making, it tells the story about the people that arose to fight for change. It focuses on grassroots and global activism, spanning fifty years worldwide. It focuses on people fighting to save their children, their land, their living planet; from halting dams at the Grand Canyon to battling 20,000 tons of toxic waste at Love Canal; from Greenpeace saving the whales to Chico Mendes and the rubbertappers saving the Amazon; from global activism to address climate change to the promise of transforming our civilization. Neither gloom and doom nor panacea, the film points towards reckoning and renewal, humanity learning to live in sustainable balance with the natural world that supports us.

Join us in bringing the film home! We've shot all of our interviews and gathered all of our archival material. We finished writing and editing a rough-cut last year. Earlier this year, thanks to a grant from Sundance, we began a fine-cut. It's a great time to get on board and see the film through the final phase of production, so our Sundance screening is a smashing success!

The Impact

This final push is the culmination of a lot of work by a lot of people - not in the least, a director at the helm of a ship that has been at sea for over ten years. We're going to Sundance come hell or high water and will need all the help we can get. This is a pivotal moment for us - come help us make it to Sundance on time! These environmental issues affect us all and we can't wait to get this film out into the world and start the community outreach that will accompany it. The first step in this is a successful Sundance premiere and we can't get there without your help!

What We Need & What You Get

There are two things at the end of a production that help a film come together and feel like "a film" - sound and picture. We're asking for $12k to pay for our sound mix (a discounted rate of 8k) and color timing (again, we've negotiated a fantastic deal of 4k). This helps the film coalesce and helps people focus on the meat and issues of the film and not get distracted by shots that don't match or sound cues that get in the way.

Other Ways You Can Help
