Director's Statement

Think back to your childhood.  Specifically, right after you were tucked in your bed and the lights were turned off.  What do you remember?  The cracks under the floorboards? The tapping on the window pane? The howling of the wind?  These were just a few sounds that rushed through my eardrums when I was a little boy.  After the sun set, I feared shutting my eyes because Id constantly conjure up images from these particular noises and my imagination would run wild.

This sparked the basis for this story.  I wanted to make a film about a boy and his biggest fear, however I didnt want to tell your traditional coming-of-age tale.  Not directly.  I wanted a story about a boy versus his inner-demons and where those demons originated.

Therefore, I decided to ask people from all walks of life a mere question: Where did your fears stem from when you were younger?  What was the root for your nightmares and how did you overcome those fears?  Through this research, I received the expected answers scary stories, horror movies, weekly television series, etc.

However, that being said, several answers I wasnt expecting emerged.  A few sources revealed that their personal family drama served as a catalyst for the fears.  Whether it was divorce, abuse, or an absent parent, these revelations proved that its not only a wandering imagination that causes a childs inner-demon to be revealed.

Thats my intention with this film.  When does reality seep so deep into a childs subconscious it begins to take on a completely different form?  And whos actually telling the truth the child or the parent?

Theres so much more conflict hiding in the deep shadows than just a childs fear.  As adults, we may be too preoccupied with everyday life to notice.  Yet, to a child, there may just be something even bigger disguised underneath.  Perhaps its purely an idea, or a heightened imagination.  Or perhaps, it really is a monster

Why You Should Care

You dont slave away for twelve hours a day, five days a week on a film set without picking up a thing or two about the industry. A) Never leave Starbucks without confirming the correct orders (ugh, coffee). B) Eat shit with a smile. And C) It takes an army to make a film.

Alright, these arent exactly genius epiphanies

It does, however, take an army to make a film. If this short were stationed in Afghanistan, the crew would be sharing a bunk with sixteen twin beds and picture lock would be our victory. That being said, one point holds true -- soldiers wouldnt be the brave fighters they are without the support from their loved ones. Its them who contribute significantly to the films inner core. The support and love from family and friends may not physically create the content, but the movie wouldnt exist without you. It couldnt.

Personally, my support group drives me to be the best artist I know how to be. Theyre my fuel. My spine. The fire under my butt that pushes me to be, not just good, but exceptional. Without them, itd just be habit and motion. Whats the fun in that?

So we turn to you - the contributors.  You are the driving force behind the scenes. We can't do this film without you and couldnt ask for a better safety net to fall on.  This project has the potential to be really great, but unfortunately, we've yet to win the lottery.  Please consider donating to this little monster film.

Were in for an adventure, and we couldnt be more excited, but in order to begin this mission - your help is needed.

What We Need & What You Get

This project is essentially an homage to Spielberg, but with a Twilight Zone back bone.  In fact, through a few contacts, we were able to get the screenplay read by the former Vice President of Steven Spielbergs Amblin Entertainment with positive feedback. In fact, she compared it to the Twilight Zone. Yes, Twilight Zone!

These costs include:

*Our equipment rental costs - much of the talented crew are donating their time and resources (whether it's free or beyond-discounted fees).  However, we still need to cover a bit more.  And by a bit, I mean $5,650.

*Actors Compensation for our two leads.  Were going SAG this time around and finding notable (and extremely talented) actors for these roles - $1,000.

*Food for cast and crew for our 5 day shoot (for roughly about 17 people). The grub will cost in the realm of $1,150.

*Plus there is the indiegogo % fee to budget in.

*Location, Location, Location We have several locations on this little film, and to have them for 5 days we'll be in the ballpark of $2,500.

For helping us embark on this artistic endeavor (and create something supers special), we would like to offer you several levels of sponsorship (see our VIP Perks).
