What's Happening.
This is a Campaign being run by 65daysofstatic. If you don't know who we are, go here: 65daysofstatic.com.
At the start of 2011 we did a live rescore to the 1972 sci-fi film Silent Running at the Glasgow Film Festival. At the time, we thought it would be limited to those two nights.
This Silent Running soundtrack has already grown to be a much bigger project than we had ever anticipated. If we are to document it, having it pressed onto heavyweight vinyl seems to be the way we ought to do it, to fit with the warm analog fuzz of the original film. Having a record released this way will also necessitate the tumultuous return of Dustpunk Records - a beast that has long lain dormant. It released our first ever e.p ten years ago. If this project succeeds and rouses it from its slumber, who knows what else the future could hold...
What We Need & What You Get.
This money we are asking for is based on a budget to get the music recorded and mixed to standard we are happy with in the studio we made (almost) all our albums. It will then pay for a short run pressing of the record onto heavyweight vinyl, some special postcard prints of artwork that was inspired by the project, bandwidth costs of making digital downloads available to people who contribute and also the components for the super-limited Silent Running 65NOISEBOXES that Simon from the band has designed. If you're a musician, then this sounds amazing going through guitar pedals, fx units, etc. If you're not, then you can just plug it into your speakers and make your own drone record for days on end. It's amazing. (We're taking no responsibility for your speakers though).
So. Instead of asking for donations, we're going to make these 'perks' work essentially like a pre-order of a record that's yet to be made. If you contribute to this project, then at the very least you'll get a digital download of the record the day it is released. If you contribute a little more, you will get a copy of the heavyweight vinyl too. You can check out all the options in the panel on the right.
The vinyl, of course, is the main thing we're looking at, here. We are planning to do a run of 250, all hand-numbered. Super limited edition. If there is exceptional demand, we may increase the number of vinyl available, but it won't exceed 1000, and we will make sure that the first 250 people who order get the first 250 off the press.
For the 65 hardcore, there are five 65NOISEBOX bundles available where as well as the vinyl/tshirt/downloads etc. we'll throw in audio cassette loops that we use in the performance (which will probably break, but, y'know, they're still sort of cool) and a 65NOISEBOX which will have been used during the recording of the soundtrack before getting sent out to you.
To see a video of a prototype noise box, GO HERE. (It will be decorated once finished).
To see a video of the tape loops in action, GO HERE.
Working to the planned schedule, the release date for this will be the autumn of 2011. The exact date will be worked out once we know for certain if the project is going to go ahead or not. Over the coming months, if you've pledged any money, we'll keep you updated on artwork for the vinyl and limited edition tshirts, designs of the noiseboxes and of course the recording processes itself with videos, downloads, that kind of thing.
If you live in the U.K, then postage for any vinyl/tshirts/bundles we are sending you will be free of charge. If you are outside the U.K, we might need to connect you via paypal to ask for a contribution to the postage - everything we are making it nice and heavy. This won't be an inflated shipping charge as there are no other people taking a cut of this transaction. It will just be a couple of extra pounds to help us keep the budget making sense.
