Our Story

Happy Tuesday, January 18th! I'm Joy Valencia a singer and songwriter, my music is heavily inspired by my favorite artists of the 60s. You can hear my music at http://listn.to/JoyValenciaMusic

I'm currently in the process of recording my very first album and have not shopped to anyone nor am I backed by any label or company atm. We are trying to shoot my very FIRST music video for my song "Don't Wake the Lion" this weekend and could REALLY use your help in raising some funds to make sure that all costs are covered. Boy oh boy do we need your help to make this happen!

The Impact

First of all, the crew has donated their time and are all legit professionals in the film industry. Unfortunately, if we do not raise part of the funds by this weekend, all of our hard work, and even the opportunity to make this video will vanish.  It just so happen to be a perfect time of year when people in the film industry are not on major jobs yet, but we loose 80% of our talented crew after Monday when many of them start work on new jobs. I cannot stress to you how much your help will save our efforts and allow us to pull this video off.

Secondly, artists in today's music industry need a video and I feel as though It's an absolute essential piece of my puzzle. No one has seen me in this kind of format yet, they know I'm a singer/songwriter, but I have not had the opportunity to truly show myself as a performer and an artist. The concept by award winning director, Erin E. Cantelo, is so creative and really fun. Imagine me in the desert, a nomad, in search of the elusive "Glitterfoot" (imagine Bigfoot, but made of gold, sparkly tinsel) who may just be the key to a personal and emotional freedom that I've been searching for. It packs some interesting emotions, while still captures my very playful side - I mean dude, we have a 6'5" Gold Bigfoot! It's gonna be a blast.

To tell you a little about our killer team who are all donating their time, hard work, and talents. Our incredible
Cinematographer, Christian Sprenger, just shot a video for the multi-Grammy nominated The Black Keys "Howlin' For You". You can check him out here: http://sprengerdp.com. Our amazing director, Erin E. Cantelo, has really pushed the creative bounds with the concept of the video while still remaining ultra-low budget. You can check out some of her work here: http://ecantelo.com. The Production Designer, Elvis Restaino is beyond talented and has had his work featured in Architectural Digest for his design of Gerard Buttler's NY loft among other things: http://elvisr.com. Our ENTIRE crew is working for free on this video.

I'll be posting behind the scenes videos in real time this weekend so you can see our progress. However, although part of the budget and the entire crew of amazing people are in place, we need your help to make the video actually happen! No donation is too small and any and ALL help is so greatly appreciated!

What We Need & What You Get

We're trying to raise money to cover food and lodging for 14 crew members for 2 nights (who by the way, will be sharing rooms, we're not being frivolous), gas and transportation to the desert, wardrobe, art department, makeup, and some equipment. The entire crew is donating their time, and the DP is donating a full Red MX camera package to the project.

We are shooting the video at the strange and mesmerizing Salton Sea to give the video a really interesting and unique aesthetic.  You can check out some pictures of the locations here:

If you've ever wanted to support me or indie music, this is the moment! The deadline is this Fri at 7pm PDT (3 days from now). Any amount truly helps! IF we raise any additional money, it will go towards finishing my album and towards paying my live band for the shows I'm gearing up to do.

I would love to have you as PART of my story. Every contributor will see their name in the credits under Thank You's. Other perks you can get are various levels of a credit as a producer on the video, signed photos and DVD's of the video, a skype serenade, and even a song written for you personally by moi!

Other Ways You Can Help

Simply posting this on your facebook or twitter helps greatly because you never know who would like to become a part of this process! Please pass this along!
